June 2017 Newsletter- The British Heatwave of 2017

In our June edition, we talk about the highly anticipated return of Game of Thrones, tell you about the history of the Quaich Bowl and brag about our Vases!

If you’re from the UK, you’ll agree that we don’t quite know what to make of the heat. When we go off on our Summer Holidays, we love it, can’t get enough of the sun, but if it’s sunny in the UK for more than an afternoon, we’re all flocking to Argos to grab as many fans as we can physically carry, in the Supermarket fighting over who gets what BBQ food and cans of Beer, stocking up on the Factor 50 and some of us are refusing to wear T-Shirts!

Seeing as this heatwave has been with us for several days now, we’re all sweaty and desperate for a slight breeze! Stay strong fellow Brits, you can get through this…

Fact of the day…

A Quaich is a small shallow bowl with handles and it is traditionally used for drinking whisky, however nowadays they are more often awarded as prizes, or given as gifts and are more commonly made of pewter or silver instead of traditional wood.

The word ‘Quaich’ comes from the Gaelic word ‘cuach’ meaning cup.

The Quaich, also know as a “Loving Cup” or “Cup of Friendship”, is a cherished Scottish invention that originated in the Highlands, where it’s been used for centuries.
